A local company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to build a replica of India’s famed Taj Mahal in Dubai, officials said on Wednesday.
Salim al-Musa, the chairman of the multi-purpose development Falconcity of Wonders, said the monument is to be called Taj Arabia and will be similar to the massive mausoleum in Agra but several times bigger.
The structure will also house apartments and shopping malls, including bridal shops, and will be surrounded by Moghul-style gardens, said al-Musa.
The company hopes to attract wedding business from the hundreds of thousands of Indians living in the UAE and neighbouring Gulf countries.
Bollywood stars have expressed interest in using the development as a film location, according to al-Musa, who said it is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014.
Keywords: Taj Mahal replica, Dubai film location

Many years ago, a crude and kitsch replica of the Taj was built as
casino on the broadwalk in Atlantic City, USA, now comes a bombastic
Dubai-version for living in period-style, cost no bar. But as film
location, who would want to see or be seen there again and again ?
Amusing!!!Yeah, come to think of it Why Not? When the original TAJ is
left to be eroded by environmental pollution,a replica by someone else
seems to be a welcome thought. However, can they match the aesthetics of
the original is a moot point, and that is true for any heritage building
or structure.Tickling a funny bone why not a "LEANING TOWER OF PISA"??
One of the invisible materials used in this construction is love.
Whereas, it will be replaced by commercial considerations in the
replica..
The Indian government should discourage the upcoming project. India is known to the outside world (which can nobody tarnish) by Mahatma Gandhi and Taj Mahal. Dubai can import the best materials and engineers can it able to give soul to it.
World wonders should be copy righted and shall not be allowed to be replicated else where in the world
Typical Emirati megalomania! They should consider that the Taj Mahal remains the
most expensive structure ever constructed if one adjusts for inflation, much more
than even the Burj Dubai.
Considering the financial woes of Dubai right now, if they truly embark on this
quixotic quest, then they are going to do straight down. How about taking a leaf out
of Abu Dhabi's plans and building something more original, like Masdar City?
