Swedish foreign minister says he supports a U.N. report claiming war crimes were committed by both sides during the Israel-Hamas Gaza conflict.

Carl Bildt says Israel made “a mistake” by not cooperating with the probe, which he called an “independent” and “serious” report that demands serious treatment.

South African jurist Richard Goldstone’s report alleged that both Israel and Hamas committed war crimes during Israel’s offensive against the Islamic militants last winter.

Thirteen Israelis and almost 1,400 Palestinians were killed during the Dec. 27-Jan.18 conflict.

Israel has rejected the war crimes allegations, declining to cooperate with the probe, fearing bias.

Mr. Bildt spoke to Swedish Radio on Thursday.
