A strong earthquake struck off the southern coast of Indonesia’s Java island early on Monday, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning.

The quake, measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale, jolted the southern coast of Central Java at about 3:06 a.m. (2006 GMT Sunday). Its epicentre was located in the Indian Ocean, 293 km south-west of Cilacap, said Indonesia’s Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Agency.

The quake occurred at a depth of 10 km, the agency said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the quake, the latest of a series earthquake to hit Indonesia in recent months.
