The government says lightning, floods and whirlwinds have killed 17 people in northern Vietnam. Six others are missing and 64 have been injured in storms.
The Floods and Storms Control Department said on its website Monday that 12 of the victims were killed by lightning. The rest died from falling trees, collapsed houses or were washed away by floods in six Northern provinces before and after Tropical Storm Haima hit the region last week.
More than 2,600 homes were destroyed or damaged, and 57,000 acres (23,000 hectares) of rice paddy were inundated.
Vietnam is prone to floods and storms which kill hundreds of people a year.
