Storm Erika forms over central tropical Atlantic

Tropical Storm Erika, the fifth named storm of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season, has formed in the Atlantic, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Monday.

The storm was located about 955 miles (1,535 km) east of the Leeward Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour (75 kph), the Miami-based weather forecaster said.

Erika is moving toward the west at nearly 20 miles per hour (31 kph).
