A day before the Sri Lankan Parliament is to discuss the United Nations Human Rights Council resolution asking it, among other things, to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission, an English newspaper reported that 150 terrorists, trained in India, have landed in Sri Lankan shores in the garb of fishermen to destabilise the country.
“State intelligence services have received information that around 150 terrorists who underwent a special arms training at three secret camps in Tamil Nadu, have returned to Sri Lanka and are hiding in the North and the East to carryout a destabilisation campaign,” The Island newspaper reported on Monday, quoting Sri Lankan state intelligence. “Their target was to sabotage and disrupt the on-going reconciliation process by creating in those areas, police sources said. Their activities came to light when three LTTE cadres taken into custody after an Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) member was hacked to death in Trincomalee were interrogated,” the newspaper added.
The suspects had confessed that they had fled to India after LTTE’s defeat, and “followed military courses in secret locations in Tamil Nadu before returning to Sri Lanka, disguised as fishermen to conduct clandestine operations…The intelligence services suspect that they may have been behind several killings reported from the North and the East.”
Indian High Commission denial
In a statement issued a shortwhile ago, the Indian High Commission in Colombo dismissed suggestions that there were LTTE-training camps in Tamil Nadu. “The suggestion contained in the news item regarding the training of terrorists at three secret camps in Tamil Nadu, India is entirely erroneous and baseless. Relevant agencies of the two countries have ongoing cooperation and no such information has been brought to the notice of the Government of India,” a release from the High Commission said.
Another newspaper, The Daily Mirror, said on Monday that “investigations are underway to ascertain if the three suspects arrested in connection with the recent killing of an EPDP member in Kuchchaveli, were former LTTE members.”
Earlier this year, it was The Island that claimed that Sri Lankan President did not discuss the implementation of the 13th Amendment plus with Indian Foreign Minister S.M.Krishna, when the two met in Colombo in January this year. At an interaction with the country's editors at Temple Trees on January 30, 2012, Mr. Rajapaksa “denied that he ever told India [this],” the newspaper reported on January 31.
The fishermen angle
The Island story claiming that the ‘terrorists’ had sneaked into the country disguised as fishermen is ominous for Tamil Nadu fishermen, who routinely crossover the International Maritime Boundary Line for fishing.
The Island’s India-heavy stories on page 1 on Monday, is a reflection of the official mood in Sri Lanka. The lead is titled ‘UN demands repeal of India Armed Forces Act’ and details last week’s story on what the UN’s Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions told the press in New Delhi. Another story, on the top of the page, is about the ownership of the land of the Trincomalee oil farm. The Farm was part-leased out to the Lanka Indian Oil Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Indian Oil Corporation.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha did ask and supported the banning of LTTE in India. She still does not support LTTE. What she is asking India is to see justice is done to ordianary Tamils after the brutal war had been won with the support of India. SL would never have won this war if India did ask for a ceasefire. That means the Srilankan forces are ready to kill the remaining Tamils in the Srilanka in the name of LTTE. It is more evident from their allegations that they are preparing to militarize the north & east of Srilanka. If they received any such information from their Intelligence then they could have communicated with the Indian High commission but since it's brutal lie. They are creating such a drama to stage more crimes against Tamils in Srilanka.

they have. Let them do it ,why care about them?India should not listen

Please do not forget the history of Indian state intelligence wing RAW's
involvement in nurturing and arming the separatist movement in Sri Lanka
for the interest of India, not for the Tamil people in Sri Lanka. As Mr.
Karunanidhi states it is his dream to have an Eelam state, I guess he
spilled the beans.

targeted at discrediting the article appearing on "The Island" news
paper by stating the news paper as a pro government news paper and the
article as a government concocted story. This is reason enough to
believe that there is merit to the story. I hope the Government of Sri
Lanka dig deep into this story to uncover the truth.
This is what India gained from Sri Lanka for supporting them in difficult situations.Sri Lanka would never have been defeated the LTTE with out the support of India.And
now India has to think twice to support the Island Nation

Fiji Islands belongs to Fujians, Zimbabawe belongs to Zimbabweans, Israel belongs to Jews, middle east belongs to Araba, Kashmir belongs to Kashmirians and Malaysia belongs to Malays.
We would ask our Indian friends not to advice us on what to publishg and what not to publish, as we are not part of Indian republic. The fact that India trained LTTE and other armed groups is not a fiction but a fact. Given the inability of central government against TN pressure this may well be truth.
This is completely believable, why isn't it? Surely s succession of Indian governments DID train, arm and finance the LTTE for decades. Jayalalitha owes an explanation on this, this could be quite possible as law enforcement has completely collapsed in Tamil Nadu. We cannot simply brush aside as one of Sri Lanka's outburst, this is precisely the reason why we should opt for a Central Anti-Terror outfit as proposed by Chidambaram, regional political parties and their leaders are becoming detrimental for national unity.

India was a major helper in training the ltte therefore it is but
understandable that Sri Lanka is suspicious of India. Once a country has
tarnished its image its very difficult to come forward as a champion of

The story published has no relevance with truth. It is simply a vain attempt to tarnish the name of our country INDIA. Its simply in response of our voting in UN to support the bill backed by USA. We lost our loving young Prime minister to them,there is no point of supporting LTTE. We never support any terrorist organization but at the same time we condemn the atrocities suffered by the Tamil people there. What the state owned pogrom was there its time for Lankan's authority to pay back that.

It is well-known that India in the 80's trained and armed the LTTE. If
something like this is happening again, I'm sure the central government
of India is not involved. If this is true, they should of course alert
the indian authorities.

This news from Sri Lanka is in responce to the UNHRC resolution. The north is heavily militarised and an LLRC recommendation calls for the de-militarisation of the province; Sri Lanka does not want to do this and will not do it. This is a fitting response & excuse for non-withdrawal.
Sri Lnka will not cooperate with the international community(IC)in implementing LLRC recommendations and if IC has not already realised this they will soon. Recognise Sri Lanka Tamils right to self-determination which fits rightly and properly in accordance with UN charters.This will resolve or ensure peace and harmony for all Sri Lankan citizens.
Yes, this could have the high end drama drafted by the Rajapakse and team. They might have killed the EPDP members and put the blame on LTTE to escape from the International Community on human rights issue. This stand of the Sri Lanka government reeks of suspicion especially so in the view of the resolution passed in the UN recently. It is my instinctive belief that this approach is being adopted solely for the purpose of defeating the resolution by backhanded methods. I could be entirely wrong in this assumption as LTTE have gone close to extinction and have come back with a vengeance. But such a situation though plausible, need not necessarily be happening solely because Mr. Prabhakaran is now dead. (or at least we think so) Therefore, in light of this and to give legal recognition to its acts of genocide, such a statement is being made.
Firstly, readers need to understand the 'Island' newspaper in SL is a hardcore pro govt newspaper. Secondly, using the concept of 'LTTE revival' is one more tactic the present SL govt has been (and continue to use) using to justify the over whelming military presence and High Security Zones in North and East of the country (On the land that belongs to Tamils). Its also another excuse to delay any solution to the issues of minority!
this seems to be a calculated response of the srilankan government to the UN resolution passed recently condemning its human rights records. the indian government has gone to the fullest extent in supporting the srilankan government in eliminating terrorism in srilanka and the present government in tamilnadu has always strived to eliminate militant activities in india.. this is a bogey raised by srilanka to deflect attention from the un resolution and to justify its activities.
