UNP to boycott CHOGM opening ceremony

Sri Lanka’s main Opposition, the United National Party, will boycott the CHOGM opening ceremony here on Friday, to protest against the government's “undemocratic and violent conduct.”

UNP general secretary Tissa Attanayake said Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was attacked allegedly by government-sponsored demonstrators on Wednesday, would not attend the ceremony.
