Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister G.L. Peiris will soon visit India to hold high-level bilateral discussions.
His visit comes barely two months after President Mahinda Rajapaksa held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon after he was sworn in Prime Minister.
According to reliable sources in Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry, Mr. Peiris is scheduled to visit New Delhi later this month. He is likely to discuss with Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj issues such as the Palk Bay conflict between fishermen of India and Sri Lanka and the much-discussed economic partnership agreement, it is learnt.
During President Rajapaksa’s meeting with Mr. Modi, the Prime Minister is said to have urged Sri Lanka to deliver on its promise of early and full implementation of the 13th Amendment, which followed the India-Lanka Accord of 1987, as was promised by the Sri Lankan President in 2010.
