Roadside bombs killed at least 16 Afghan soldiers throughout the country within 24 hours, the Afghan Ministry of Defence said on Saturday.
“Seven soldiers were killed in roadside bomb attacks in Helmand, Kandahar, Paktika, Kunar and Kabul provinces,” the Ministry said in a statement.
It also said that three other soldiers were killed in Paktika and Kandahar, while six soldiers were killed and three others injured in similar attacks in Logar, Zabul, and Baghlan provinces.
The attacks come two weeks after NATO handed over full control of responsibility for Afghanistan’s security to its military.
Roadside bombs planted by anti-government Islamic extremists are responsible for 60 per cent of deaths in the Afghan Army.
