Rallies challenge Pakistan government

May 12, 2014 01:27 am | Updated 01:27 am IST - ISLAMABAD:

Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) in the capital and Tahir ul Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) held huge rallies in the capital and Rawalpindi respectively to slam the government for its poll rigging and corruption and both leaders said people had turned out in large numbers despite the best attempts to scuttle the protests.

Mr. Khan stuck to his demand for revising the election process and keeping it free of corruption while demanding a new Election Commission since people had lost faith in the existing one.

He said members of the Commission should resign and steps should be put in place including electronic voting machines and bio magnetic identification for elections.

Besides he wanted finger print verification at once in the four constituencies he had filed a case on in the Supreme Court as an example of major rigging in last year’s polls.
