Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Chairman of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), on Thursday made a pitch for greater financial support from China during a meeting with President Xi Jinping.
The Nepali politician also sought to assuage Beijing’s anxieties on its two biggest concerns in relations with Kathmandu: the activities of Tibetan exiled groups based in Nepal, as well as the persisting political uncertainty which Chinese analysts say has deterred investment.
Mr. Prachanda told Mr. Xi that Nepal “will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy”, the official Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying. He also sought increased “financial and technical support” and closer cooperation on infrastructure and water conservancy projects.
Mr. Xi said China was “ready to work together with Nepal” to deepen ties, which he said were “conducive to stability and development in the region”, according to Xinhua.
