Pakistani Army chief Gen. Raheel Sharif is chairing a meeting onThursday to discuss implementation of the anti-terror action plan of the corps commanders in Rawalpindi.
The agenda is to discuss the anti—terror plan, establishment of military courts, matters pertaining to professional affairs of the military and progress on the ongoing Operation Zarb—e—Azb against militants in North Waziristan tribal region, Dawn online reported.
Gen. Sharif has taken the corps commanders into confidence over the action plan which had been agreed upon by all political stakeholders in the country.
The corps commanders also endorsed the plan and agreed that the army will work side—by—side with the citizens of Pakistan to counter terrorism.
In the aftermath of >December 16 carnage at the Army Public School in Peshawar , the country’s political leadership has taken measures on emergency basis to chalk out strategy to curb terrorism.
A joint political decision to establish military courts to try terrorists for a speedy trial has been one of the major developments in this regard.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had also lifted a long-held moratorium on the death penalty, resulting in the execution of seven convicts who had attempted to attack former President Pervez Musharraf.
