Former military dictator Pervez Musharraf was placed under house arrest on Saturday after an anti-terrorism court sent him on 14-day judicial remand in the judges’ detention case. His farmhouse, on the outskirts of the federal capital, has been declared a “sub-jail in view of threats to his life .
In the morning, Gen. (retd.) Mushrraf was taken to court from the Islamabad Police Headquarters – where he spent the night in the Inspector-General’s suite — amid tight security. He was also made to wear a bullet proof vest under his kurta in view of the security threat.
As he walked into the dingy confines of the magistrate’s room from an alley, he was almost jostled by the policemen, entrusted with the task of keeping him safe, as lawyers heckled him. From the courtroom, he was taken back to the police headquarters after which he was shifted to his farmhouse.
