Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has in response to a video clip of Ali Haider Gilani, son of former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, indicating that his family was not taking any steps for his release, cautioned the media against any sensational coverage. Also the video revealed that his kidnappers were not from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan as widely believed.
The kidnappers whose identity was not known have asked for a ransom of Rs. 500 million, according to news reports. Ali Haider was in chains and looked ill in the video. He was kidnapped on May 9 last year from Multan outside the party office of the Pakistan People’s Party.
There are threats to kill him if his ransom is not paid.
Chaudhry Nisar confirmed the existence of the video in an informal chat with reporters.
However, he said this was not sent to the government and the ministry could not verify this.
