The death toll reached 22 in Sri Lanka on Tuesday after heavy rains triggered floods and landslides, displacing more than 10,000 people across the south, west and north-west of the country, a spokesman of the Disaster Management Centre said.

The armed forces were deployed to help clear affected areas and evacuate those trapped.

Sri Lanka has seen heavy rains in the past three days, following a drought lasting more than five months.
