At least 10 people were killed and eight injured on Saturday in a clash between Afghan police and Taliban militants, an official said.

“A group of armed Taliban rebels attacked a local police checkpoint in Gilan district in in Ghazni province, 125 km south of Kabul Saturday, and police returned the fire, killing 10 rebels on the spot and wounding eight,” Mahboubullah Sabawon, Gilan district governor, told Xinhua.

It is, however, not known whether there were any casualties among the security personnel.
