Drone strikes kill three in N. Waziristan

A day after Pakistan said it would raise the U.S. drone strikes issue with the United Nations, three persons were killed on Saturday in Mir Ali tehsil in North Waziristan.

The three killed are militants, according to news reports quoting officials. In a statement, the Pakistan government strongly condemned the drone strikes calling them a violation of Pakistan’s sovereigntyThe statement added that drone strikes are counterproductive; entail loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications. Such strikes also set dangerous precedents in the inter-state relations.

It said they have a negative impact on the desire of both countries to forge a cordial and cooperative relationship and to ensure peace and stability in the region.
