Nepalese security officers and army officers, in camouflage uniform, look for survivors in the wreckage of a bus after an accident near Chidipani, northwest of Kathmandu, Nepal.

A bus veered off a mountain highway in Nepal and plunged into a river before dawn on Thursday, killing 14 people and injuring seven others, officials said.

The bus skidded off the Siddhartha highway and rolled 300 metres before it plunged into the Bhalukhola river in Palpa district, said government administrator Shiva Raj.

Twelve people were killed at the crash site and two more died in the hospital. The crash occurred near Chidipani, a village 320 km North-west of the capital, Kathmandu. The highway is narrow and with hairpin bends, Mr. Raj said, adding that the visibility was poor.
