Six migrants have died making the sea crossing from North Africa to Italy, the Italian authorities said on Saturday.

The six men were among a group of some 120 people — including women and children — whose fishing boat arrived at Catania in eastern Sicily.

On Thursday, Somali migrants who reached the Italian island of Lampedusa said two people on board their vessel had died on the way.

In recent days the Italian authorities have taken in well over 200 African migrants attempting reach European shores.
