Sharif to return home on Saturday after surgery

July 08, 2016 06:20 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 02:51 pm IST - ISLAMABAD:

Officials say Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who underwent open heart surgery at a hospital in London last month, will be returning home on Saturday.

Daniyal Gilani, a spokesman for Pakistan International Airlines, said on Friday that because of Mr. Sharif’s “health issues,” his office had been partly moved to London. He said a plane was being sent to bring Mr. Sharif and his staff back.

Mr. Sharif travelled to London in April and underwent surgery there in May. Anjum Chaudhry, a member of the U.K. chapter of the ruling PML-N party, also confirmed the Prime Minister’s travel plans.

Under pressure to quit

Mr. Sharif is under pressure from the opposition to step down because his family members were named as holders of offshore wealth in leaked financial documents from Panama law firm Mossack Fonseca.
