Six suicide bombers and a policeman were killed in an attack on a governor’s office Wednesday in northern Afghanistan, an official said.

“Six suicide attackers in police uniform entered the governor’s office, one of them blew himself up inside the compound and five others were shot dead by police,” said Abdul Kabir Waseq, spokesman for the governor of Panjsher province.

A policeman was killed by the one who detonated his suicide vest, he said.

“The terrorists attacked the governor’s office at 4 am (1130 GMT), and the clash lasted three hours,” Mr. Waseq said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility in a mobile phone text message.

Panjsher, around 120 km north of the capital Kabul, is considered one of the most stable provinces in Afghanistan.
