He lived to shock and in his death he succeeded in doing the same, but fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who committed suicide yesterday has left behind a legacy worth billions with sales of his collections shooting up a staggering 1400 percent.
Celebrities like Kylie Minogue and Naomi Campbell are paying tribute to the “design genius” by sporting the iconic McQueen skull scarf, which has sold out from all outlets, reported Daily Mail online.
But while Minogue is lucky enough to already own a piece of McQueen’s legacy, thousands of fans flooded London stores yesterday in a bid to get their hands on a piece of fashion history.
The shocked family of McQueen have held his mother’s funeral just a day after the fashion designer killed himself.
However, the vacant burial plot next to Joyce McQueen has led to speculation that her 40-year-old son will be laid to rest beside her.
“People want a memento, and these scarves are such an easily identifiable one. Customers were buying them and putting them on immediately,”said Kate Brindley, Liberty stores’s head of press.
Liberty are also planning to unveil a commemorative McQueen display on Monday, entitled McQueen and Country, in tribute to the designer.
McQueen, the controversial creative genius who clothed the world’s biggest stars, committed suicide on the eve of his beloved mother’s funeral.
