Quake shakes buildings in Jakarta

A strong earthquake caused tall buildings to sway in Indonesia’s capital.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Indonesia’s Meteorology and Geophysics Agency put the preliminary magnitude of Monday’s temblor at 6.1. It hit 121 km southwest of West Java province’s coast at a depth of around 24 km.

Indonesia has frequent earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
