More than 150 protesters have rallied outside Oman’s state television headquarters in the capital Muscat to call for greater press freedoms.
Tuesday’s demonstration was peaceful.
On Monday, Oman’s ruler made another concession to protesters’ calls for more jobs and political openness by dissolving the office overseeing economic affairs. Sultan Qaboos bin Said also fired several government ministers as part of the third high—level reshuffle in the past 10 days.
Oman’s unrest is small compared with Gulf neighbour Bahrain. But Oman is strategically important because it shares authority with Iran over the crucial Strait of Hormuz, the route for 40 percent of the world’s oil tanker traffic.
