Poland’s President—elect Bronislaw Komorowski says he’ll drop his party affiliation and be a unifying force during his five—year term.
Mr. Komorowski made the pledge on Tuesday during a ceremony at Warsaw’s ornate Royal Castle that officially confirmed his victory in last weekend’s presidential runoff.
Mr. Komorowski beat Mr. Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the twin brother of late President Lech Kaczynski, who was killed in a plane crash in April. The election was held several months early to fill the vacancy.
Mr. Komorowski was the candidate of the Civic Platform party of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. His presidency means a strengthening of the government’s position.
