Peshawar blast kills 6

A bomb attack near the North-West Frontier Province capital Peshawar killed at least six people and left 13 wounded, a day after visiting U.S. Special Representative Richard Holbrooke said improvements in the security situation had enabled him to focus on other challenges that face Pakistan.

The Agence France Presse news agency reported that a commander of the Tehreek-e-Taliban from the Mohamand tribal agency, Qari Shakeel, called to claim responsibility for the deadly explosion on Monday.

The attack took place at a petrol pump in the Shab Qadr area of Charsadda, inside a passenger van that had stopped for fuel. The area borders Mohamand.

All the dead were passengers in the vehicle, including two children, while motorists awaiting their turn at the petrol pump were among the injured. Police said the deadly attack seemed to have been caused by a time bomb planted in the vehicle.
