Maintaining the tempo of attacks on anything associated with the government, the Pakistani Taliban on Saturday claimed responsibility for a suicide bomb attack on a pro-government tribe in the tribal agency of Bajaur.
Two tribal elders who were part of a pro-government peace committee were killed in the attack that consumed eight lives. Eleven persons were also injured in the attack at a marketplace in the Salarzai region of Bajaur which had seen military operations last year in a bid to clear the agency from terrorists.
A spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban told the AFP that the tribesmen were attacked because they joined the government and were maligning the Taliban. The TTP spokesman also claimed that the tribesmen had been warned of dire consequences if they did not disband the peace committee and added that more such attacks would take place if they refused to fall in line.
