A Pakistani television channel has aired footage purportedly showing an American detained for fatally shooting two Pakistanis.

The footage, apparently taken soon after the January 27 shootout, shows the American pleading with police to find his passport and saying he’s a consultant for the U.S. consular general in Lahore.

The U.S. has demanded Pakistan release the American, saying he has diplomatic immunity and shot the Pakistanis in self—defence. Pakistani leaders say the matter is up to the courts.

The U.S. is curbing contacts with Pakistani leaders, threatening to cut off aid if the man is not freed.

The short clip that aired on Wednesday night on the private Dunya channel appears to come from a cell phone lying on a table. Pakistanis have identified the American as Raymond Davis.
