The Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad was summoned to the Foreign Office on Monday by the Director-General (South Asia and SAARC), who lodged a protest with him over the capture of 13 Pakistani fishermen by Indian authorities on March 15, according to an official statement.
Pakistan’s Fishermen Cooperative Society said the fishermen and their boat were well within Pakistani territorial waters, at Khajar Creek, when they were captured.
Pakistan sought the immediate release of its fishermen and return of the boat.
The Foreign Office said the incident went not only against international law and practices but also against the spirit of the positive steps being taken by both countries to improve and normalise bilateral ties.
