A top anti-corruption court has issued bailable arrest warrants against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar after he failed to appear on Monday before the court citing health reasons.
Ishaq Dar is accused of amassing huge wealth in Dubai beyond. his known means of income. Ishaq Dar denied the charges in his indictment earlier this month.
He was scheduled to appear before the accountability court but instead his lawyer Khawaja Haris told the judge that Mr Dar is in London for health reasons and therefore he be granted exemption from hearing and adjourn the case to November 2.. The judge expressed his resentment on Mr. Dar for not informing the court ahead of the hearing. The court issued bailable warrants for his arrest and production before the court in next hearing.
A Supreme Court judge is overseeing cases against Mr. Dar and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his children following n apex court judgment in July. Mr. Sharif resigned as Prime Minister after the court judgment that declared him not being honest and truthful in declaring his income before tax authorities.
The Supreme Court directed National Accountability Bureau to prepare corruption cases against Sharifs and Ishaq Dar. Nawaz Sharif is in London as his wife is undergoing treatment for throat cancer. Mr. Sharif skipped last hearing to be with his wife but the accountability court had also issued bailable arrest warrants against him last week. He is now scheduled to appear before the court on Friday.
