Bangladesh will observe national mourning on Saturday for the victims of the country's worst fire in which over 100 people, mostly children and women, were killed here on Thursday night.
Officials put the death toll at 114 on Friday as the fire was put out.
The devastating fire broke out in the densely-populated old part of Dhaka. Over 200 people were hospitalised in critical condition.
The cause could not be known immediately but local people said it was from an electric transformer explosion. During the nightlong rescue operation, the fire service men and the local people pulled out dozens of burnt bodies from 10 ravaged houses and 20 shops that had been reduced to ashes.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the injured at the hospital and inquired about their treatment. The government has extended financial and other logistics support for the burial of the victims.
