A two-day protest by Opposition Members of Parliament against summons issued by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption to the former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajpaksa was called off on Tuesday with Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakse informing the House that officials of the Commission would visit the former President to record a statement.
Originally, the former President was asked to appear before the Commission for having appointed Tissa Attanayake as Health Minister on the eve of the Presidential election. Mr. Attanayake, who was earlier with the United National Party, switched over to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to become the Minister.
Chamal Rajapaksa, the Speaker, also adjourned Parliament to April 27, when the 19th Constitutional Amendment Bill would be taken up for discussion.
