Nigeria’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia says Nigeria’s ill president has returned home after three months but needs time to rest before assuming power.

Ambassador Abdullah Aminchi, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that President Umaru Yar’Adua had returned home on a flight to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Mr. Aminichi says Mr. Yar’Adua is “already walking,” can eat and move about on his own. However, questions remain as to how ill Mr. Yar’Adua remains after heading to a Saudi Arabian hospital in late November and remaining there for treatment of a heart condition.

After more than two months of a standstill, Nigeria’s National Assembly voted to empower the vice president to take over as acting president.
