U.S. President Barack Obama was decidedly “not pleased” by the release of hundreds of thousands of diplomatic memos by whistle-blower website WikiLeaks, his spokesman Robert Gibbs said on Monday.
“It's safe to say that the President was — it's an understatement — not pleased” by the leak when he was briefed about it last week, Mr. Gibbs told journalists.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that the U.S. “deeply regrets” the release by WikiLeaks of confidential documents.
“I will not comment on or confirm what are alleged to be stolen State Department cables,” Ms. Clinton said.
“But I can say that the United States deeply regrets the disclosure of any information that was intended to be confidential, including private discussions between counterparts or our diplomats' personal assessments and observations.”
