The Pakistan Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the Lahore High Court's decision to release Jama'at-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed from house arrest. Citing lack of evidence, the court dismissed petitions filed by the Pakistan government and the Punjab government challenging the release of Saeed.
New Delhi, which considers Saeed to be the mastermind of the November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, expressed disappointment and hoped Pakistan would be sensitive to India's concerns and take effective legal action.
Taking up the petition filed by the federal government, a three-judge bench of the court noted that enough evidence had not been presented to establish Saeed's involvement in the Mumbai attacks and his links with the Al-Qaeda.
