The Nepali Congress and the CPN (Unified Marxist-Leninist) on Thursday decided to hold “decisive” talks with the UCPN (Maoist)-led 30-party opposition alliance on the disputes over the new Constitution.
“We have decided to hold decisive talks with the opposition parties and move ahead,” said NC Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu, briefing journalists after the meeting. “We cannot wait for long in the name of consensus.”
The two ruling parties also decided to present their joint stance to the opposition alliance as well as seek their common position on it. The parties have not been able to reconcile their differences on federalism, model of governance and electoral system.
A meeting of then four major political forces – the NC, the CPN-UM, the UCPN (Maoist) and the Madhesi Morcha – has been scheduled for later on Thursday.
