Nepal’s Finance Secretary said the caretaker government may not have enough money to keep running unless a budget is approved by mid-November.
Finance Secretary Santa Raj Subedi said the government would not be able to feed security forces, run hospitals and pay salaries to teachers and tens of thousands of government workers after Nov. 15.
Nepal’s caretaker government has been trying to get President Ram Baran Yadav to approve the budget through an ordinance, but Mr. Yadav has made it clear Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai needs to get the support of opposition political parties first.
The opposition parties say Mr. Bhattarai needs to resign and a new government needs to come to power.
