NATO says it is dropping former British defence secretary Geoff Hoon, from a group of experts drawing up the alliance’s new strategic concept.
Mr. Hoon is among three former Cabinet ministers who have been suspended from Britain’s ruling Labour Party over allegations that they tried to trade access to government officials for cash.
The member of Parliament was part of a group of experts headed by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, by drafting NATO’s new mission statement.
NATO spokesman James Appathurai, said on Wednesday that Mr. Hoon had been nominated to the group by the British government. Mr. Appathurai says that given Mr. Hoon’s suspension, “he has been asked to end his participation in the group.”
