Egypt’s top prosecutor has charged Hosni Mubarak’s two sons with insider trading and referred them to trial before a criminal court.

The charges were announced Wednesday by the prosecutor-general’s office.

Mubarak and his two sons, one-time heir apparent Gamal and wealthy businessman Alaa, are already in prison and on trial on charges of corruption. A verdict is expected on June 2.

Mubarak stepped down in February last year in the face of a popular uprising. He was arrested along with his two sons in April last year. Mubarak himself is also charged with complicity in the death of some 900 protesters during the 18-day uprising, but his sons do not face those charges. He could get the death penalty if convicted.
