Medvedev praises India-Russia ties

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has praised “wide-ranging and extremely rewarding relations” with India and the “energetic, systemic and multifaceted political dialogue” between the two countries.

Receiving External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna in the Kremlin, Mr. Medvedev expressed his confidence that close relations and cooperation between India and Russia “will continue to develop”.

Sharing his impressions of the meeting with the Russian leader Mr. Krishna said it “further cemented” his perception that time-tested relations with Russia that have weathered many storms “have come out stronger”.

Apart from bilateral relations the two leaders discussed during their 40-minute meeting regional issues, particularly Afghanistan. According to Mr. Krishna, Mr. Medvedev highly appreciated India’s role in helping rebuild Afghanistan. Sources said the discussion showed complete meeting of minds of the two countries on the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Mr. Krishna is in Moscow for a session of the Indo-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission.
