Over a score people were killed and several injured in two blasts at the Sakhi Sarwar Darbar in Dera Ghazi Khan in southern Punjab on Sunday evening, during the course of the three-day Urs at the Sufi shrine.
The terrorists first struck at the entrance of the shrine of Hazrat Sakhi Sarwar as devotees crowded the premises . The second blast took place inside the shrine when rescue workers rushed to the spot.
While police said this was the handiwork of suicide bombers, television channels reported that one person had been nabbed alive.
Sufi shrines have come under periodic attack across the country in recent years as the hardliners regard believers to be heretics, particularly since music and mysticism is central to Sufisim.
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said such cowardly acts of terror clearly demonstrate the culprits involved neither had any faith nor any belief in human values.
Meanwhile, police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a terrorist who was planning to attack the former Prime Minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's “mausoleum” in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh in Larkana, Sindh, on Monday when a large number of people are expected to congregate to observe his 32nd death anniversary.
