The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on March 16 the death toll from Russian air strikes on the village of Kafr Batna in the rebel-held enclave of eastern Ghouta climbed to at least 31 civilians.

“There are at least 31 killed in the Russian air strikes including six children,” Rami Abdulrahman, the director of the U.K.-based war monitor, said.

He said many people were injured and in a critical condition.

“The bodies are completely burnt by the Russian war plane air strikes,” Mr. Abdulrahman said.

More than 4,000 left eastern Ghouta, says Russia

The Russian military said that 4,127 people had left eastern Ghouta on March 16, the TASS news agency reported, citing a senior military official.

“As of now, 4,127 people have left the area. They are mainly old people, women and children,” Russian Major-General Vladimir Zolotukhin was cited as saying by the agency.
