Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao at Copenhagen on the sidelines of the climate summit later this week to discuss a common strategy for climate change.

The two are expected to meet on Thursday when they arrive in the Danish capital for the concluding session of the United Nations climate summit, Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yan told a group of journalists here on Monday.

Mr. Zhang said that Dr. Singh and Mr. Wen had discussed how the two countries could work together to achieve positive results from the Copenhagen conference during telephonic talks last week.

Describing India and China as “emerging powers” and the “future of the world,” Mr. Zhang said the two countries should take a lead in mobilising all developing nations to achieve a “win-win” result wherein development is not made to suffer at the cost of tackling global warming.

Speaking to The Hindu, Indian officials said Dr. Singh’s bilateral engagements in Copenhagen were still being worked out.
