A bus carrying Thai tourists overturned on a winding road near a Malaysian highland resort on Monday, killing 26 people, an official said.

The tourists were returning from a weekend trip to the popular Cameron Highlands holiday destination in central Malaysia when their bus apparently spun out of control and crashed into a road divider on Monday morning, said a district fire department official.

Authorities said rescuers recovered 22 bodies, while another four people died on the way to the hospital. They said about 15 other passengers were wounded.

It was one of Malaysia’s worst road accidents in recent years.
