U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says WikiLeaks disclosures are illegal but will not damage U.S. foreign relations.

In a joint news conference on Friday with Bahrain’s foreign minister, Sheik Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Ms. Clinton said many statements in the secret cables have been taken out of context.

Ms. Clinton is in Bahrain to attend an international security conference where Iran’s nuclear programme and its regional political role are expected to be major topics of discussion.

The Bahraini foreign minister told the news conference that his country “can never accept” an Iran with a nuclear bomb.
