North Korea’s Kim Jong Un was named supreme commander of the country’s 1.1 million-strong military just weeks after his father’s death catapulted him to the head of the authoritarian state, South Korean media reported on Saturday.
The decision was made in the central committee of the political bureau of North Korea’s ruling Workers Party, according to Yonhap News.
The younger Kim’s title of supreme commander is meant to further strengthen the reign of the 30-year-old over the nation, after the death of father Kim Jong Il earlier this month.
