A Japanese climber attempting to scale Mount Everest has died just a few hundred feet (meters) from the summit.
Department of Mountaineering official Tilak Pandey said on Friday that the Japanese climber - identified as Ozaki Takashi - fell sick and was returning down the slopes of Everest when he collapsed at an altitude of 28,200 feet (8,600 meters). He died on Thursday afternoon.
Mr. Pandey said attempts are being made to bring down the body of the 59—year—old climber and it most likely will be picked up on Saturday by a helicopter from a lower camp.
He was climbing with a team of international climbers.
