Japan is planning to create a new Cabinet post to oversee the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The government agreed on Tuesday to introduce a legislation that would add a new minister in charge of coordinating the various ministries and agencies involved in the 2020 Summer Games. Areas of responsibility would include transportation, security and venues.

The Olympics currently fall under the responsibility of the minister of education, culture, sports, science and technology.

If the Japanese parliament approves the bill, the Cabinet would increase in size to 19 members.

The legislation also outlines a basic policy for management and preparations for the Games, and envisions a government Olympics task force that would operate through 2020.
