Israel slaps travel ban on Palestinian land expert

Israel has imposed a travel ban on a Palestinian expert on Israeli land confiscations in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

Authorities cited unspecified security considerations in barring Khalil Tufakji from travelling outside Israel and the West Bank for six months.

Mr. Tufakji says he was summoned last week to Jerusalem police headquarters, where he was handed the ban.

He called it “one of the ongoing Israeli violations against Palestinians in Jerusalem.”

He said on Monday he often lectures in foreign countries about Israeli confiscation of lands the Palestinians claim for a future state.

Israel’s Shin Bet internal intelligence agency recommended the ban because Mr. Tufakji’s departure from Israel might harm state security.

The ban is in effect until August 2.
