Israeli fighter jets bombed a workshop in northern Gaza and two smuggling tunnels in the south of the strip overnight, the Israeli military said Monday.
No injuries were immediately reported.
The airstrikes were retaliation for several rockets and mortar shells fired from Gaza at Israeli communities in the southern Negev desert during the weekend, it said in a statement.
The military said the tunnels in the southern town of Rafah, on the border with Egypt, were used for smuggling weapons into Gaza, and the workshop in the north for manufacturing weapons.
It said that in 2010, Palestinian militants fired more than 100 rockets and mortar shells at Israel from Gaza.
Since Israel’s three-week offensive in Gaza in the winter of 2008-2009, a total of 350 rockets and mortars have been fired at Israel from the strip. Some 1,400 Palestinians, many of them civilians, were killed in the massive Israeli shelling from the land, air and sea during the offensive, and in ground fighting in the densely populated strip.
